Introduction of Mineral Processing Engineering
Mineral processing engineering of Central South University is one of the earliest disciplines set in former Central South Institute of Mining and Metallurgy founded in 1952. Mineral processing engineering is subordinated to the primary discipline of mining engineering, which is the national key discipline and the key construction discipline of the nation’s “211” and “Double-first Class” projects. The scientific research team of mining engineering of Central South University is known as “Central South Department” by related scholars, playing a crucial role and enjoying reputation at home and abroad. After decades of hard work, a high level discipline team has been founded, being leaded by the academician Dianzuo Wang and Guanzhou Qiu. The main research focused on New Flotation Technologies and The design of Cleaner Reagents, Interfacial Chemistry and Solution Chemistry of Minerals, Separation Theory of Multi-force Field and Separation Equipment of High Efficiency, and Comprehensive Utilization of Complex Ores and Secondary Resources and Environmental Governance. The discipline team had won 8 national awards and nearly 40 provincial and ministerial awards. At present, the team has 2 academicians, 2 distinguished professors of Cheung Kong Scholar, 2 National Science Fund for Distinguished Youth Scholars recipients, 15 doctorial supervisor, 13 professors, and 13 associate professors.
Several generations of the department believe that novel research ideas are from any field of science and technology demanded for the development of human society. All these breakthroughs in both theory and technology will make significant contributions to humankind. Consequently, the team still works hard to scale the new heights of science and technology in the “sunset specialty” and has made significant contributions, receiving the recognition from international academic communities. The research team leaded by academician Dianzuo Wang has been recognized as “Changsha School” by international academic community due to the pioneering contribution to the flotation theory. Presently, the members of the school are working hard to create greater glories of the world’s mineral processing industry.
